Discovering Wae Rebo Village

Nestled in a serene valley of West Flores, Wae Rebo Village stands out as one of the premier tourist destinations on the island. The Unique Architecture of Mbaru Niang Houses

One cannot discuss Wae Rebo without mentioning its iconic Mbaru Niang houses. Translated as ‘drum houses,’ these communal structures are marvels of local architecture. Built around a central pole with supporting bamboo beams and thatched roofs, these houses tower five stories high and can accommodate up to eight families along with their crops and food. Staying in one of these historic dwellings allows visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture while experiencing the warm hospitality of the Wae Rebo community.

Itinerary

Day 1: Labuan Bajo – Wae Rebo Village (Awarded UNESCO’s World Heritage)

07:30 AM: Our driver and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel. Drive to Lembor Sub-District, following the Trans Flores Road, enjoying the beautiful scenery. Stop at Lembor Rice Field, the largest rice field in the western part of Flores Island. After a light breakfast, continue driving to Dintor Village for lunch. After lunch, drive to Denge Village, the starting point for the trek to Wae Rebo Village, an old Manggaraian Village located in a wonderfully isolated setting. Wae Rebo Village offers visitors the opportunity to experience pristine Manggaraian housing and culture.

Day 2: Wae Rebo – Dintor Village – Labuan Bajo

After breakfast, prepare for the trek back to the starting point and have lunch at Dintor Village. After lunch, drive back to Labuan Bajo and check in at the hotel.

🗓️ Day 1: Arrival – Ende or Maumere to Moni Village

Option 1: From Ende Town
  • Pick up at Ende Airport or your hotel

  • Stop at Detusoko Rice Terraces and Wologai Traditional Village
  • Arrive in Moni Village, check in at your hotel
Option 2: From Maumere Town

Day 1: Arrival – Wae Rebo Traditional Village

  • Scenic drive through Lembor’s rice fields

  • Start the trek up to Wae Rebo, the famous village hidden in the mountains

Day 2: Wae Rebo – Spider Web Rice Fields – Ruteng

  • Full day boat trip to the 17 Islands Marine Park
  • Snorkeling, beach time, and picnic lunch on the island

Day 6: Riung – Blue Stone Beach – Detusoko – Moni
  • After breakfast, we head toward Moni, the gateway to Kelimutu

Day 7: Kelimutu Sunrise – So’a Hot Springs – Bajawa

10 Days / 9 Nights – Overland Flores with Aristo (Driver & Guide)

Hi! I’m Aristo – your local driver and guide for this unforgettable 10-day overland trip across Flores. We’ll explore beautiful waterfalls, hidden beaches, traditional villages, amazing viewpoints, and the famous Kelimutu lakes. Let’s take it easy, enjoy the journey, and make some great memories together!

Day 1 – Labuan Bajo – Cancar – Ruteng

Pickup from your hotel or the airport (Labuan Bajo, Ende, or Maumere). We’ll head to Cunca Wulang Waterfall for a short hike and a swim, then drive through Lembor’s rice fields and visit the famous Spider Web rice fields in Cancar. Overnight in Ruteng.

Day 2 – Ruteng Area Exploration

Visit Liang Bua Cave (the Hobbit Cave), then head to Cunca Lega Waterfall – we’ll spend more time here relaxing and enjoying the view of rice terraces. After lunch, we’ll explore the traditional village of Ruteng Pu’u. Overnight in Ruteng.

Day 3 – Ruteng to Riung (17 Islands)

After breakfast, we head to Riung. On the way, we’ll make several photo stops, especially along the scenic north coast road. The drive takes about 5–6 hours. Overnight in Riung.

Day 4 – Island Camping Adventure

Today’s all about the ocean! We’ll take a boat to the 17 Islands Marine Park, go snorkeling, relax on the beach, and enjoy a peaceful night camping on one of the islands. Lunch and dinner will be served on the beach. Overnight on the island.

Day 5 – Riung – Blue Stone Beach – Moni

Wake up with the sunrise, then boat back to Riung. After a hotel breakfast, we’ll drive to Moni, with a lunch stop at Blue Stone Beach and a coffee break at Detusoko rice terraces. Overnight in Moni.

Day 6 – Kelimutu Sunrise – Koka Beach – Moni

We’ll start early at 4:30 AM to catch the magical sunrise at Kelimutu Lake (a 20–30 minute hike). After enjoying the view, we’ll return for breakfast. Then we head to Koka Beach for lunch and some relaxing beach/snorkeling time. Overnight in Moni.

Day 7 – Moni – Bajawa – Tololela Village

After breakfast, we drive to Bajawa, stopping again at Blue Stone Beach for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Malanage Hot Springs. Overnight in Tololela traditional village.

Day 8 – Bajawa Area – Wolo Bobo – Inerie Trekking

Today we explore Wolo Bobo Hill and Ogi Waterfall. In the evening, we prepare for the Inerie Volcano hike. We’ll sleep early in a Bajawa homestay to get ready. Overnight in Bajawa.

Day 9 – Inerie Hike – Aimere – Ruteng

Start the Inerie Volcano hike early in the morning (about 2–3 hours up). After sunrise, we’ll hike back down around 9–10 AM. After resting and breakfast, we drive to Ruteng, stopping in Aimere to see how local sopi wine is made. Visit Lake Rana Mese on the way. Overnight in Ruteng.

Day 10 – Ruteng – Todo Village – Labuan Bajo

After breakfast, we’ll visit Todo Traditional Village, then head back to Labuan Bajo. End of the trip.
